Young Squad to Lead Lady Harriers in ‘09
September 4, 2009

Sophomore Heather Fischer will try and lead a very young squad in '09.
First-year head coach Katie Marcella will sport a very young women’s cross country team in 2009. The squad’s lone two All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) runners both graduated, leaving the team with one junior and three sophomores returning.
“I’m excited to be able to take over the program and see where I can go with it” said Marcella. “This season is going to be a total learning process from start to finish.”
Youth may just be what the Storm needs to try and improve on last season’s fifth place finish at the NEAC Championships.
Leading the way will be sophomore Heather Fischer (Marietta, N.Y./Tully), who finished in the top 5 for Keuka in all seven races last season, including a second place finish in the Oswego Invitational. Fischer also posted a 5K personal best time of 23:16 at the NEAC Championships
Sophomore Maddie Reynolds (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton), who had three top 5 Keuka finishes a season ago, will be counted on much more this season.
Also back are junior Mary Nicholas (Geneva, N.Y./DeSales) and sophomore Shannon Fay (Sarasota, N.Y./Booker).
New to the squad this season will be Elizabeth Gorman (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) and Stephanie Pontes (Pompton Lakes, N.Y./Pompton Lakes). Both runners should make an immediate impact for the Storm.
The lady harriers will start their season at SUNYIT Saturday, Sept. 5. They will then compete in invitationals at SUNY Oswego, Hobart, SUNY Geneseo, Nazareth, and the University of Rochester. Keuka’s lone home race will be Thursday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. at Keuka Lake State Park. The NEAC Championships will be held at SUNYIT Saturday, Sept. 31.
