Reece’s Hat Trick Powers Storm Over D’Youville

Junior forward Jack Reece (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) recorded a hat trick to propel the Storm to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Spartans of D’Youville College on Wednesday.
Keuka improves to 2-1 on the season while recording its second straight shutout against an Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opponent. D’Youville falls to 0-4 on the season.
Keuka dominated the entire game, out-shooting D’Youville 37-9 and kicking 11 corner kicks to just one for the Sparatns.
Reece got the Storm started in the 22nd minute (21:21) when rookie Nate Smith (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) fed him on a break away. It was Reece’s second straight game with the game-winner. The score would remain 1-0 at the half.
Reece was right back at it just 1:30 into the second half as he booted his second goal past the Spartans goalie. Junior Carl Learned (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) and Alex Vondracek (Montour Falls, N.Y./Odessa-Montour) both assisted on the goal. The All-NEAC first team selection a season ago, finished off the hat trick in the 55th minute (54:38). Reece now has four goals in three games this season.
Senior Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) and junior Kyle Salo (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) combined on the shutout in goal for the Storm. Meskill collected three saves with Salo stopping one shot. D’Youville’s Dan Cornelius stopped 15 of the Storm’s 18 shots on goal.
Keuka will next play host to SUNY Potsdam this Saturday, Sept. 12 beginning at 3 pm.
