September 19, 2009

Freshman John Mastrella's first career goal was the game-winner.
A pair of goals by freshmen was all the Storm needed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill on the road Saturday.
Keuka has not lost since its season-opening 1-0 loss to Alfred University as they improve to 4-1-1 overall. Cobleskill falls to 2-5.
The two teams were held scoreless in the opening half as only 14 shots were taken. Keuka was limited to only eight shots in the second half but managed to score two goals before Cobleskill finally recorded a goal. For the game, Keuka out-shot Cobleskill 14-13.
Freshman John Mastrella (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) got Keuka on the board with his first collegiate goal in the 47th minute. Mastrella scored off a pass from junior Jack Reece (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili). A little over ten minutes later, another rookie, Nate Smith (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), gave Keuka a 2-0 lead. His second goal of the season came in the 58th minute (57:07).
Cobleskill’s Kameron Wittmeyer cut Keuka’s lead in half in the 75th minute (74:42).
Senior goalie Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) recorded two saves while improving to 4-1-1 on the year. Cobleskill’s Travis Hall stopped three shots.
