Socha Breaks School Record at Geneseo Invite

Led by a record-breaking perforamnce by junior Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee), the Keuka women’s cross country team placed 18th out of 23 teams at the SUNY Geneseo Invitational this weekend.  The 6K race was held at Letchworth State Park.

Keuka finished with a team score of 511 while Geneseo won the race with a score of 41.  SUNY Brockport placed second with a score of 92 and was followed by the Geneseo Alumni (95), Rochester (122), and Laurentian (155).

Socha turned in a 16th place finish out of 216 runners.  Her time of 23:31 shattered the previous Keuka College record for a 6K race of 24:07 set back in 2003. 

Freshman Stephanie Pontes (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) placed 153rd in a time of 28:40 while classmate Elizbeth Gorman (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) was the Storm’s third finisher in 172nd place (29:33).

Sophomores Heather Fischer (Marietta, N.Y./Tully) and Maddie Reynolds (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) rounded out Keuka’s top-five.  Fischer in 201st place (33:27) and Reynolds in 206th place (35:14).

The Storm will next compete in the Nazareth College Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 10.
