Two Late Goals Doom Storm Against Berks

The Keuka College women’s soccer team lost a regular season North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game for the first time since a 2-1 overtime loss to Chestnut Hill College back on Sept. 30, 2006.  Keuka couldn’t hold a 2-1 lead as two late goal secured a 3-2 win for the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Berks on Saturday.

Keuka drops to 3-6 overall and 3-1 in the NEAC while Berks improves to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action.

After trailing 1-0 after the end of the first half, Keuka answered with back-to-back goals by Junior Courtney McLaughlin (Warsaw, N.Y./Letchworth) and freshman Nicole Sharick (Corfu, N.Y./Pembroke).  The goals came in the 53rd (52:29) and 59th (59:00) minutes.  Sharicks goal was assisted by junior Deanna Nort-ier (Marion, N.Y./Marion)

Keuka couldn’t hold the lead as Berks tied the game in the 67th minute (66:46) and then scored the game-winner in the 86th minute (85:18).

Keuka’s defense held the Nittany Lions to just eight shots all game but three of those snuck in for goals.  Keuka blasted 20 shots on the day.

Keuka goalie Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) had two saves in 79:09 minutes.  Sophomore Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) suffered the loss in goal while playing the final 10:51 and stopping one shot.  Berks goalie Cassidy Dawson had nine saves to pick up the win.

The Storm will next travel to SUNY Morrisville this Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a 4 pm game.
