October 6, 2009
Senior volleyball star Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) and junior cross country runner Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee) were both named Keuka College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3. This is McHale’s second Athlete of the Week selection this fall and Socha’s third.
McHale, a 5-10 outside hitter, led Keuka to a 1-3 showing at the Nazareth College Invitational while being named to the All-Tournament team. It is McHale’s second All-Tourney selection this fall out of three tournaments. She finished with 24 kills, four aces, 45 digs, and 3.5 blocks. McHale’s best match was against SUNY Geneseo where she had 14 kills (.316%) and 23 digs. On the season, McHale leads the Storm in digs (174) and is second in kills (112) and aces (13) and third in blocking (26).
Socha, also named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week this week, finished 16th overall out of 216 runners at the SUNY Geneseo Invitational. More impressive then her overall place is her time. Socha finished the 6K race in a time of 23:31. Shattering the previous school record of 24:07, set back in 2003 by Katrina DeWitt.
