Matheis Breaks Own 6K Record at Naz Invite

Led by sophomore Scott Matheis’ (Barker, N.Y./Barker) record-breaking performance, Keuka placed sixth out of nine teams at the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational on Saturday.
Keuka ended with a team score of 164 while Alfred State won the race with a final tally of 27. Nazareth took second (42) and was followed by Finger Lakes CC (102), Daemen College (105), and SUNY ESF (118).
Matheis placed 29th overall out of 73 runners as he finished the 6K race in a time of 20:55. He set a pace of 5:37 as he shattered his own Keuka College record for a 6K record. His previous record, set last year, was 22:14.
Junior Kraig Connor (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) finished 40th overall in a time of 22:10 with a 5:57 average mile. Rookie David Parker (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) was 10 seconds behind Connor (22:20) as he finished 42nd overall. Juniors Chris Mazella (Depew, N.Y./Depew) and Josh Uline (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) finished fourth and fifth for Keuka. Mazella was 48th overall (22:37) while Uline was 56th (23:46).
Keuka will next run in its final race before the NEAC’s. The Storm will compete in the Hobart College race at Seneca Lake this Saturday, October 17.
