Cross Country Runners Break Records; Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

Keuka College cross country runners Scott Matheis (Barker, N.Y./Barker) and Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee) both broke a school record in their race this week and earned Athletes of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 10.
Matheis, a sophomore, finished 29th out of 73 runners at the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational. He averaged a 5:37 mile and his overall 6K time of 20:55 shattered his own school record for a 6K race. He set the original mark of 22:14 last year.
Socha, a junior who has now been named Keuka Athlete of the Week four times this fall, finished first out of 73 runners at the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational to win her second invite this fall. She won the race by 34 seconds while averaging a 6:24 mile. Socha, who broke the school record for a 6K race last week, broke the school record for a 4K race with her time of 15:53. The previous record was 16:11 set back in 2005.
