The Keuka volleyball team used some solid serving to defeat the visiting Saxons of Alfred University by a score of 3-1 at the Weed Physical Arts Center on Wednesday.

With the win the Storm improve to 9-14 overall after a 1-10 start.  Alfred slips to 2-18 on the season.

Keuka handled the first set easily against the Saxons winning 25-13 and won the second set 25-19.  Alfred then snatched the third set 25-18 to avoid the sweep.  The fourth set had the two teams tied at 22 when Keuka sophomore Emily Hargrave (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye)came up with a huge block on defense to put the Storm up 23-22.  Keuka then collected the final two points to secure the win.

The Storm finished with 13 aces on the day led by rookie Demi Kauppinen’s (Portville, N.Y./Portville) four.  Kauppinen also led with 11 assists.  Junior Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) led the offense with 12 kills while classmate Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) added eight.  Senior Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) had a team-high 15 digs.

Keuka will next play at the SUNYIT tri-match this Saturday, Oct. 17.  The Storm will also play against Penn State-Harrisburg.
