Volleyball Splits at SUNYIT Tri-Match

The Keuka volleyball team went up against two of the top Volleyball teams in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) this season and came out with a split.  Keuka started by defeating the Wildcats of SUNYIT by a score of 3-2.  The Wildcats are ranked at the top of the conference right now.  Keuka then fell to Penn State-Harrisburg by a tally of 3-1.  The Nittany Lions are in a second place tie in the conference rankings.

After the two matches, Keuka now sits at 10-15 overall.  SUNYIT stands at 14-10 overall while Harrisburg is at 16-10.

Against the Wildcats, the two teams traded sets with SUNYIT winning the first (25-22) and third (25-23) and Keuka taking the second (25-18) and fourth (25-18).  The Storm then emerged victorious in the fifth and final set (15-13).  Keuka ended with a team attack percentage of .308 while SUNYIT posted a .101.  Both teams had 50 kills. 

Senior Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) led Keuka with 16 kills and 16 digs.  Junior Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) also had 16 kills and added 13 digs.    Junior Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) recorded five kills and five blocks (2 solo) while Katy Geers (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and Hanna Doody (Tully, N.Y./Tully)  each had 19 assists a piece.

Against the Nittany Lions, Keuka dropped the first two sets (25-15 and 25-11) before rebounding to capture the third set (25-18).  Harrisburg finished off the Storm with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.  Keuka had just .068 attack percentage while recording only 19 kills to Harrisburg’s 42.  McHale led the Storm with 10 of its 19 kills while also picking up a team-high 19 digs.  Geers dished out 18 assists.

Keuka will next play host to both Penn State-Berks and the College of St. Elizabeth this Saturday, Oct. 24.  Game times will be 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm.
