Women’s Soccer Wins Defensive Battle

Senior Alyssa Gumtow's corner kick proved to be the game-winner.
The Keuka women’s soccer team won a very close game by a score of 1-0 against the host SUNYIT Wildcats on Saturday. In a game that saw only 15 shots total it was an own goal off a Keuka corner kick that gave the Storm the victory.
Keuka improves to 6-7 overall and 6-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). SUNYIT falls to 10-7-1 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
The Storm were limited to just six shots all game while Keuka’s defense halted the Wildcats offense to a tune of just nine shots. Neither team was able to score in the opening period.
A corner kick by senior Alyssa Gumtow (Farmington, N.Y./Victor)in the 64th minute (63:14) was headed in by a SUNYIT defender to give Keuka the 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore goalie Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) picked up a shutout while recording six saves.
Keuka will next play host to Cazenovia College this Wednesday, Oct. 28 beginning at 4 pm.
