Volleyball Drops Pair in Halloween Invite

The Keuka volleyball team suffered a pair of losses at its own Halloween Invite at the Weed Physical Arts Center on Saturday.

The Storm were stung 3-1 by the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College (19-16) in its first match and then fell by the same score to the Bengals of Buffalo State (19-15).  Keuka ends its regular season with a 12-17 record.

Against Fisher, Keuka dropped the first set 25-12 before taking the second set 25-16.  The Storm were then defeated 25-7 and 25-18 in the final two sets.  Keuka posted a .071 attack percentage, finishing with only 22 kills.  Junior Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Crek) led the way with five kills and 11 digs.  Senior Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) added a team-high 14 digs while sophomore Hannah Doody (Tully, N.Y./Tully) recorded 11 digs.

Against Buffalo State, Keuka got off to a good start with a 25-22 win in the opening set.  After dropping the second set 25-16, the Storm and Bengals went back and forth in the third set with Buffalo State finally coming out on top (31-29).  The Bengals wrapped it up with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.  Keuka posted 46 kills with Naegely again leading the way with 13.  McHale posted seven kills and 14 digs while senior Jessica Volz(Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) collected 13 digs.  Keuka’s two setters Katy Geers (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and Demi Kauppinen (Portville, N.Y./Portville) finished with 18 and 17 assists, respectively.

Keuka will next wait to see where it is seeded in the NEAC Tournament that will be played Nov. 6-8.
