Lady Storm Take 6th at NEAC’s; Socha Named Runner of the Year

Led by the perormance of junior Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee), the Keuka women’s cross country team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships held at SUNYIT on Saturday.

The Storm ended the 5K race with a final score of 143.  SUNY Cobleskill took home the conference title with a score of 56.  The University of Dallas claimed second place with an 85 while SUNY Morrisville (115), Penn State-Harrisburg (131), and the College of St. Elizabeth (134) rounded out the top-five.

Socha won the race by one second to earn NEAC Runner of the Year honors.  She finished in a time of 20:19 while a runner from St. Elizabeth came in at 20:20.  Socha ran at a 6:33 pace.  It was the third straight race that she has won and fourth overall this fall.

Freshman Stephanie Pontes (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) finished in 19th place in a time of 24:34.  Her finish earned her a spot on the All-NEAC third team.

Fellow rookie Elizabeth Gorman (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) placed 39th overall in a time of 27:28.  Sophomores Maddie Reynolds (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton)  and Heather Fischer (Marietta, N.Y./Tully) rounded out the Storm’s top-five in 47th (28:33) and 50th place (29:43), respectively.
