Storm Upset Top NEAC Team with 2-0 Win

The Keuka men’s soccer team knocked off the top-seeded NEAC Team, the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Abington, with a 2-0 shutout in its final regular season game on Saturday.
The Storm handed Abington just its third loss of the season (12-3) while Keuka improves to 8-6-1.
The shutout is Keuka’s sixth of the season as they held the top team in the NEAC to just 16 shots. Keuka was held to only 13 shots but was able to get two of those past Abington’s goalie for scores.
Senior Kelin Wheaton (Cameron Mills, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) got the Storm on the board in the 13th minute (12:14) with an unassisted goal. Wheaton’s second of the season. The score would remain 1-0 Keuka at the half.
Junior Carl Learned (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) gave the Storm a 2-0 lead in the 64th minute (63:40) with his fourth goal of the season.
Junior goalie Kyle Salo (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek), making his first start of the season, had seven saves while picking up the shutout.
The Storm will next play its first game of the NEAC Tournament against the University of Dallas, a rematch of last season’s NEAC Tournament finals, this Thursday, Nov. 5 at Keuka beginning at 2 pm.
