The Keuka College men’s soccer team’s season came to an end with a 3-2 loss to the No. 5 seeded Crusaders of the University of Dallas in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.

It was the Crusaders who ended the Storm’s season last year in the Tournament Finals by a score of 3-1.  Keuka finishes 2009 with an 8-7-1 overall record.  Dallas improves to 6-8-3 on the year and advances to face No. 1 seed Penn State-Abington in the Semifinals at Keuka this Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 pm.

Dallas scored twice in the game’s first 16 minutes to take a 2-0 lead.  Sam Sheetz got the first goal in the 10th minute (9:46) and Aaron Tucker kicked in Dallas’ second goal in the 16th minute (15:20).  Keuka freshman Christian Sterner (Castorland, N.Y./Lowville) cut the Crusaders lead in half with his second goal of the season in the 25th minute (24:40).  After a Keuka corner kick, the ball was kicked around in front of Dallas’ goal before Sterner blasted it into the back of the net.  The first half would end 2-1 in favor of Dallas.

Tucker would net his second goal for Dallas off a penalty kick in the 73rd minute (72:15) to put the Crusaders back up by two.  Keuka again would answer, this time with a penalty kick of its own in the 82nd minute (81:27).  Rookie Nate Smith (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) scored the goal, his third of the season and Keuka’s first PK of the year.

Dallas would out-shoot Keuka 19-12 for the game while the Storm led 21-7 in fouls.

Senior Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) finished with two saves in goal while playing all 90 minutes.
