Sharick Sends Storm to NEAC Tourney Finals
November 7, 2009

Freshman Nicole Sharick scored the game-winner in double overtime.
Trailing 1-0 with just one minute and eight seconds remaining in regulation, Keuka (10-7) was able to tie the game and send it to overtime against the No. 2 seeded Wildcats of SUNYIT (10-8-1). The Storm then won it in double overtime to advance to the finals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament.
Despite out-shooting SUNYIT 11-4 in regulation, it was the Wildcats who were able to score first as they netted the game’s first goal in the 52nd minute (51:06).
With time winding down and the Storm’s season on the verge of being complete, rookie Nicole Sharick (Corfu, N.Y./Pembroke) fed senior defender Kelly Josephson (Jamestown, N.Y./Maple Grove) for the game tying goal with just 1:08 left in the game. It was Josephson’s first goal of the season and Sharick’s team-leading ninth assist.
Both team’s ripped two shots in the first ten-minute overtime with neither team able to score. In the second extra frame, it was Sharick who made the lone shot of the period count as she blasted the game-winner off a pass from senior Jessica VanScoter (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) in the 108th minute (107:32). The goal was Sharick’s 11th of the season and fourth game-winner of the year.
Senior Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Chruchville-Chili) stopped three shots in goal to pick up the win.
Keuka advances to the Tournament finals against top-seeded Penn State-Harrisburg this Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1 pm at Penn State-Harrisburg.
