Men’s Basketball Drops Season Opener to Alfred

The Keuka men’s basketball team lost by a score of 75-66 in its season-opening game to the Saxons of Alfred University on the road Tuesday. Alfred picks up its first win of the year as they improve to 1-1.
The Saxons shot 36% (12-for-33) from the floor in the opening half to grab a 29-22 halftime lead. Keuka shot 31% (9-for-29) in the opening half.
The Saxons stormed out of the gates in the second half building its lead to as many as 20 points (58-38) with just 8:24 remaining. Keuka’s Calvin Logins (Newark, N.Y./Lyons) then scored 17 points in just 3:21 seconds to get the Storm to within two (66-64). A pair of free throws by Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas Acad.) tied the game up with 3:08 remaining in the game. Keuka was unable to score after that as Alfred’s netted the game’s next nine points.
For the game, Keuka shot 36% (24-for-67) while Alfred shot 42% (27-for-64). Alfred pulled down five more boards (46-41) then the Storm.
Logins led all scorers with 22 points while going a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Booker had a huge game with 19 rebounds (12 offensive), 11 points, and five blocks. Senior Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) ended with 16 points and a team-high four steals. Fellow senior Peter Durr (Barneveld, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) chipped in with 10 points.
Alfred also had four players in double figures led by Bobby Barry’s 21 points.
Keuka will next play in the SUNYIT tip-off tournament this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21. The Storm will start with a 6 pm game against Utica College.
