Women’s Hoops Picks Up First Win of Season in Rout of Canton

The Keuka College women’s basketball team picked up its first win of the season while routing the visiting Kangaroos of SUNY Canton by a score of 63-38 on Saturday.

The Storm had 11 different players score led by a game-high 19 points from junior Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) as they improve to 1-2 on the season.  Canton slips to 1-3 overall.

Keuka held an 18-point (36-18) advantage at the break after holding Canton to just six first half field goals (23%).  The Storm went 14-for-33 (42%) from the floor in the opening half including 7-of-13 from behind the arc.  The second half saw Keuka outscore Canton 27-20 while both teams had a field goal percentage in the 20’s.  For the game, the Storm out-rebounded the Kangaroos 51-41 while Keuka had 21 turnovers to Canton’s 25.

Schrock went 7-for-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the 3-point line.  After three games she is averaging 19.3 points a game (56 points).  Fellow junior Nicki Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) added six points and a team-high four assists.

Rookies Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Acad.) and Latasha Santana (Rochester, N.Y./East) each poured in seven points a piece while Mouzon added seven boards.  Junior Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) led Keuka with eight rebounds.

Keuka will next take on Penn State-Berks on Saturday, Dec. 5 on the road beginning at 1 pm.
