The Keuka College women’s basketball team dropped a low-scoring game to the Saxons of Alfred University by a score of 53-43 on the road Tuesday.

Keuka slips to 0-2 on the year while Alfred improves to 2-0.

Keuka had a chance late in the game as junior Nadia Madmoune’s (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) bucket at the six minute mark cut the Saxons lead to just four (45-41).  Neither team was able to score for the next four and a half minutes until Alfred sank a 3-pointer to seal the win.

Keuka led virtually the entire first half until Alfred tied it just before the half.  For the game, the Storm shot just 29% (14-for-48) while Alfred shot 35% (20-for-58).  Keuka went just 4-of-19 from behind the arc.  The Storm won the battle of the boards by 12 (44-32). Read more

Socha and Vail Grab Athlete of the Week Honors

Juniors Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee) and Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) used strong post-season performances to take home Keuka College Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 14.

Socha, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Runner of the Year, placed 52nd out of 239 runners at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships held at Letchworth State Park.  Socha ran the 6K race in a time of 23:40 while averaging a 6:21 mile.  Socha ended her first year as a collegiate cross country runner with four first place finishes.

Vail, the Storm’s goalie, finished with 13 saves in the Storm’s 5-0 loss to the No. 2 Williams College Ephs in Keuka’s NCAA Tournament game.   Vail, a third team All-NEAC selection, faced 43 shots from the 18-0 Ephs.  Vail ended the season with 87 saves and a .829 save percentage.

Junior Brittany Schrock scored a career-high 28 points.

The Keuka women’s basketball team was within single digits with under a minute remaining but eventually lost its season opener to the Herons of William Smith College by a score of 81-68 on the road Sunday.

The game was also William Smith’s season opener as they begin its 2009-10 season 1-0.

Trailing by as many as 21 points in the second half, Keuka was able to fight its way back into the game and get within eight points, three different times.  Forced to foul at the end, the Storm were unable to complete its comeback.  Keuka outscored William Smith 41-37 in the second half. Read more

Junior cross country runner Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee) took 52nd place out of 239 runners at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday.

Socha, who has enjoyed a banner junior year, ran the 6K race in a time of 23:40 to set a pace of 6:21.

St. Lawrence won the Regional with a team score of 43 as they had the top finisher and four of the top nine runners.

Socha won four races this fall including the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships as she was named the NEAC Runner of the Year.

McHale Selected to All-NEAC First Team; Two Others Recognized

Senior Holly McHale was selected to the All-NEAC first team.

Senior Holly McHale was selected to the All-NEAC first team.

Three members of the Keuka College women’s volleyball team were selected to the All-conference teams after the Storm went 14-19 overall and 2-2 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament this season.

Highlighting the All-NEAC selections was senior outside hitter Holly McHale (Carthage, N.Y./Jefferson CC) who repeated on the first team.  McHale led the Storm with 252 kills and 381 digs (3.83 per game).  She also finished tied for third on the team in aces (22) and third on the team in blocks (48).

Junior outside hitter Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) was picked to the All-NEAC second team for the second consecutive season.  Naegely led Keuka in kills per game (2.28) while finishing with 237 kills.  She was also second on the team in digs (228), tied for third in aces (22), and tied for fifth in blocks (43). Meskill Tabbed NEAC Goalie of the Year; 4 Others Recognized

Senior Mike Meskill was selected the NEAC Goalie of the Year.

Senior Mike Meskill was selected the NEAC Goalie of the Year.

The Keuka College men’s soccer team, who sported an 8-7-1 overall record this year, had five players recognized by the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) on its All-Conference teams.

Led by senior goalie Mike Meskill (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) who was selected as the NEAC Goalie of the Year while also being selected to the All-NEAC first team.  Meskill started all 15 games he played in and finished with 84 saves and a 0.93 goals against average.  He posted a 7-7-1 record while recording four shutouts, adding to his Keuka College record of 23 career shutouts.

Junior midfielder Jack Reece (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) was selected to the All-NEAC second team after leading the team in all four offensive categories.  He had five goals, three assists, 13 points, and two game-winning goals.  Read more
