Storm Hold Morrisville to 38 Points in Big Win

The Keuka College women’s basketball team won its fourth game in a row as they knocked off the visiting Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville by a score of 60-38 at the Weed Physical Arts Center on Wednesday.

The Storm used scoring from 13 different players as they improve to 4-2 on the season.  Morrisville slips to 1-7 overall.

Keuka jumped out to a 19-0 lead and never looked back as they held a 39-10 halftime lead.  Morrisville outscored Keuka 28-21 in the second half but the damage was already done in the opening half.  Keuka shot 48% (25-for-52) from the floor while holding the Mustangs to just 24% (14-for-58).  The Storm’s defense caused 29 Mustangs turnovers leading to 15 Keuka steals.  The Storm edged Morrisville in rebounds (43-34).

Leading the plethora of scorers was junior Nicki Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) with 11 points.  Zahn went 4-for-7 from the floor while also finishing with five rebounds and three assists.  Rookie Montana McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) had a team-high six rebounds and five steals while adding five points.  Fellow freshman Latasha Santana (Rochester, N.Y./East) netted nine points while junior Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) had six points and five rebounds.

Morrisville was led by Thelma Picardo’s game-high 17 points.

The Storm will next play in the new year against SUNYIT at home on Jan. 9 beginning at 1 pm.
