Women’s Hoops Stopped By YellowJackets

The Keuka College women’s basketball team had its five-game winning streak stopped by the Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester by a score of 67-38 at home in the first round of the Wendy’s College Classic on Tuesday.
Keuka slips to 5-3 overall while Rochester, winners of the past four Wendy’s College Classics, improve to 10-2 on the season.
The Storm started strong, jumping out to an 8-4 lead after almost five minutes of action but the Yellowjackets went on a 28-8 run to close out the first half. Rochester held a 32-18 lead at the break. Keuka shot 30% (7-for-23) in the opening half while holding Rochester to just 25% (12-for-48) from the floor.
Rochester outscored Keuka 35-20 in the second half as they continued to get second chance points off of offensive rebounds. Rochester finished with an impressive 28 offensive boards to go with 27 defensive (55 total). Keuka managed 38 rebounds. For the game Keuka posted a shooting percentage of 27 (14-for-52) while the Yellowjackets went 26-for-77 from the floor (34%). Rochester connected on eight 3-pointers to the Storm’s one.
Junior Nadia Madmoune (Rme, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) led Keuka with13 points going 4-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Madmoune also tied the team-high with six rebounds.
Rookie Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) and senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) each netted six points a piece.
Rochester was led by Amy Woods who posted the game’s lone double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds (7 offensive).
Keuka will now face No. 6 R.I.T., who fell to No. 3 St. John Fisher College by a score of 66-57, this Thursday, Jan. 14 at the University of Rochester. The game will tip-off at 3:30 pm.
