The Keuka College women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting R.I.T. team as the Storm fell 77-60 in its second game of the Wendy’s College Classic at the University of Rochester on Thursday.

Keuka slips to 5-4 overall while the Tigers, who broke a school record for 3-pointers in a game with 11, jump above .500 at 6-5.

The Storm fell down by 13 (18-5) after the game’s first nine minutes but were able to get back within eight (31-23) at the break.  The Storm shot 38% (8-for-21) from the floor while the Tigers shot 46% (12-for-26).

The Tigers caught fire from the outside in the second half as they netted 7-of-9 3-pointers en-route to setting the school record.  The Tigers shot 11-for-16 (69%) from behind the arc for the game.  Keuka managed just three 3-pointers for the game.  The Storm quickly cut R.I.T.’s lead to four (31-27) to start the second half but then allowed back-to-back 3-pointers to push its deficit back to double figures.  Keuka did win the battle of the boards by seven (34-27) but had just 12 assists to the Tigers 21. 

Senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) enjoyed a solid all-around game with 11 points, seven assists, a game-high six steals, and a team-high three assists.  Junior Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) had a game-high 17 points as she went 8-for-14 from the floor.  She also added a team-high eight boards (five on the offensive end).

Junior Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) was the third Storm player in double figures with 10 points while making two of Keuka’s three 3-pointers.  Rookie Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) added six points and seven rebounds.

R.I.T. was led by Anna Wapshare who went-off for 16 points while making 5-of-6 from behind the arc.  Danielle Furman added 12 points and seven assists.

The Storm will play in the seventh place game this Saturday, Jan. 16 against the top-seeded Golden Flyers of Nazareth College at 11 am at Nazareth College.
