Storm Can’t Hold Lead Against Naz

The Keuka College men’s basketball team couldn’t hold on to its seven-point half time lead as they fell to the No. 3 Golden Flyers of Nazareth College by a score of 72-65 in its second game of the Wendy’s College Classic at the University of Rochester on Friday.

The Storm drop its third straight game as they fall to 4-6 overall.  Nazareth improves to 10-5 on the year with the win.

Keuka rolled out to a seven-point lead (40-33) at the break after shooting an impressive 58% (18-for-31) from the floor.  The Storm held Nazareth to just 38% (13-for-34) shooting and had its lead up to as many as 12 (37-25) in the half.

The second half saw the Golden Flyers slowly claw its way back until they eventually claimed the lead at the 13:33 mark (46-44).  A lay-up by junior Calvin Logins (Newark, N.Y./Lyons) with 4:45 remaining knotted the game at 57.  Nazareth would then go on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.  Keuka was outscored 39-25 in the second half.

For the game, Keuka shot 47% (28-for-60) while Nazareth went 26-for-64 (41%).  The Golden Flyers dominated the boards (45-31) while grabbing 22 offensive rebounds.  Keuka dished out 15 assists to only seven for Naz.

Senior Alex Coleman (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while making 3-of-7 attempts from behind the arc.  Coleman also had a team-high four assists while adding five rebounds.

Junior Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas Academy) had a big first half going 6-for-6 from the floor for 13 points.  He finished with 18 points (8-for-10), six rebounds, and three blocks.  Logins added a double-double with 16 points and team-highs in rebounds (10) and steals (3).

Nazareth was led by Corey McAdam with 23 points while Phil Scaffidi added 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals.

Keuka will next play tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 16 at 11 am against the No. 8 Blue Knights of SUNY Geneseo.  The game will be played at St. John Fisher College.
