The women’s basketball team dropped its final game ever in the Wendy’s College Classic to the top-seeded Golden Flyers of Nazareth College by a score of 58-40 at Nazareth on Saturday.  The Storm have withdrawn from any future involvement in the Tournament.

Keuka suffers its third straight loss and now stand at 5-5 overall as they finish in eighth place in the Tournament.  Nazareth evens its record at 8-8 on the year while finishing in seventh place for the tourney.

The Storm never led as the Golden Flyers jumped out to an early lead and carried it to a 32-23 advantage at the break.  The second half was not any friendlier to Keuka as they netted just six field goals while tallying only 17 second half points.  Nazareth scored 26 points in the second half while posting a field goal percentage of .40 for the game (21-for-52).  Keuka went 15-for-53 from the floor (28%) while making six 3-pointers.  Nazareth grabbed 46 rebounds while Keuka had 27.

Junior Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) led the Storm as the only player in double figures with 12 points.  Schrock went 3-for-5 from behind the arc.  Senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) had a game-high seven assists to go with her seven rebounds and three steals.  Her second steal of the night broke Keuka’s all-time record for steals of 227 set back in 1991.

Junior Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) led Keuka with 10 rebounds while grabbing six offensive boards.  Classmate Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) added eight points.

Nazareth was led by Kelly Dunne and her 14 points while Ashley Gallagher added seven points, nine rebounds, and five blocks.

Keuka will next Play this Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Cazenovia College beginning at 6 pm.
