Mouzon’s 29 Points Guide Women’s Hoops To Win

Rookie Mariah Mouzon Scored a career-high 29 points in the win.
The women’s basketball team ended a three-game losing steak by beating the Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a score of 72-65 at Cazenovia on Wednesday.
Keuka now rises to 4th place in the NEAC standings and stand at 6-5 overall. Cazenovia drops to 4-9 on the year and currently sit in 8th place in the NEAC standings.
The Wildcats came out on fire, out-scoring the Storm 43-35 in the first half. Both teams shot very well from the floor the first half with Cazenovia shooting 47% (17-for-36) from the field compared to Keuka’s 41% (14-for-34).
The Storm played an immaculate second half shooting 51% (14-for-27) from the field. The Wildcats cooled off and were outscored 37-22 while shooting only 23% (9-for-39) from the field. Keuka also became a force to be reckoned with in the paint and teh Wildcats did not have an answer for rookie center Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy). The Storm out-rebounded Cazenovia 51-35.
Mouzon had a game and career high 29 points to lead the offense. She went 11-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Mouzon also netted a double-double contributing 10 rebounds (five offensive). She also had two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Junior Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) also had a double-double with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) added 10 points and eight rebounds. Thurston continued to add on to her steals record with two. Junior Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) added nine points and six boards.
Cazenovia was led by Samantha Allen who had a 15 points and 11 rebounds. Christine Nichols added 18 points while making six 3-pointers for the Wildcats.
Keukawill next play at home, this Sunday Jan. 24 against the College of St. Elizabeth beginning at 1 pm.
