Thurston Leads Storm to Fifth Straight Win

The Keuka women’s basketball team picked up its fifth straight win and second in two days by defeating the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg by a score of 61-45 on Sunday. 

The Storm improve to 10-5 overall while Harrisburg slips to 8-10.

Tied 8-8 early, Keuka would out-score Harrisburg 21-14 over the rest of the first half to hold a 29-22 lead at the break.  The Storm shot 12-for-27 (44%) from the floor while Harrisburg went 7-for-22 (33%).

The second half saw the Storm out-score the Nittany Lions 32-23 as Keuka went 13-for-34 (38%) from the floor.  Harrisburg went 8-for-24 (33%).  Keuka stretched its lead to as many as 22 (61-39) late in the second half.  For the game Keuka shot 41% while Harrisburg shot 33%.  The Storm out-rebounded the Nittany Lions 45-29.  Keuka also had 13 steals compared to Harrisburg’s eight.

Senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) led the Storm with a game high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting while also pulling down seven rebounds.  Junior Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) had a double-double for the Storm with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) added 13 points, three assists, three steals, and one block.  Sophmore Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) pitched in with 10 points.

Amaris Gardner and Dorothea Dixon each led Penn State-Harrisburg with 10 points.

Keuka will next play away on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 pm against the College of St. Elizabeth.
