Turnovers Cost Storm in Loss to Nittany Lions

The Keuka men’s basketball team didn’t take care of the ball and wound up with a 85-69 loss at home to the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Harrisburg on Sunday.

Keuka falls for the sixth time in its last eight games and slip to 6-9 overall.  Harrisburg wins its 10th game in its last 12 and improve to 12-6 overall.

After trailing 9-0 early, Keuka scored 10 straight points including eight from junior Rob Crowley (Attica, N.Y./Attica) to go up 10-8.  The Storm would end up trailing 33-27 at the half.  Keuka shot 32% (10-for-31) while Harrisburg went 13-for-39 (33%).

The Storm would get to within two (33-35) early in the second half but would be outscored 50-36 over the rest of the game, highlighted by a 16-2 run in a span of two and a half  minutes.  The Storm committed 35 turnovers in the game which led to 21 Nittany Lions steals.  Despite Keuka out-rebounding Harrisburg by 20 (55-35), the turnovers were too much to overcome.  Keuka shot 40% (25-for-63) from the floor while Harrisburg shot 32-for-77 (42%).

Crowley finished with 11 points while going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.  In his last two games, Crowley is 7-for-9 from long range.  Juniors Diamond Booker (Bronx, N.Y./Fredrick Douglas Acad.) and Calvin Logins (Newark, N.Y./Lyons) each added 11 points and nine rebounds a apiece.

Junior Matt Thomason (Odessa, N.Y./Odessa-Montour) added eight points and five rebounds off the bench while rookie Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) had a team-high five assists.

Harrisburg was led by Kenny Alston who poured ina  game-high 21 points to go with his nine rebounds.  Jordan Gatchell added 10 points, nine assists, and eight steals.

Keuka will next play at Wells College this Wednesday, Feb. 3 beginning at 7 pm.
