Storm Pull Down 50 Boards in Win Over Berks

The Keuka women’s basketball team used a 10-point halftime lead to cruise to a 58-47 win over the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State-Berks on Sunday.

The win is Keuka’s ninth in its last 11 games as they now stand at 14-7 overall.  Penn State-Berks slips to 12-9 on the year.

The Storm used four 3-pointers and 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line to build a 10-point (31-21) halftime lead.  Keuka’s defense held Berks to just nine first half field goals.

The Storm’s defense continued to corrupt the Nittany Lions offensive plans as they were held to just six field goals and a shooting percentage of just 21.  Keuka outscored Berks 27-26 in the second half.

For the game, Keuka shot 36% (22-for-62) while Berks went 15-for-56 (27%).  The Storm held a strong advantage in rebounds (50-39) while collecting 12 steals.

Junior Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) led all Keuka scorers with 18 points while making three 3-pointers, dishing off a game-high six assists, and grabbing five rebounds.    Rookie Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Acad.) added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Nadia Madmoune (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Acad.) chipped in with 12 rebounds, eight points, and two blocks while senior Melissa Thurston (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) had eight points, eight rebounds, and five steals.  Junior Jessica Fink (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) had nine points.

Courtney Bailey led Penn State-Berks with a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds.  Jasmine Harris-Kane added 12 points despite going 4-for-21 from the floor.

Keuka will next play host to SUNY Cobleskill this Wednesday, Feb. 17 beginning at 6 pm.
