Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Flood to Retire at End of Academic Year

Tom Flood coached the Storm to a 9-16 record in 2009-10.
Tom Flood, head men’s basketball coach at Keuka College, will retire at the end of the 2009-10 academic year.
Flood, former athletic director and boy’s basketball coach at Honeoye Falls-Lima (HF-L) Central School, served as assistant men’s basketball coach for three seasons before being named head basketball and golf coach in 2007. He will continue to serve as golf coach.
“Tom Flood is one of the most successful basketball coaches in our area and he had a positive impact on our men’s basketball program for six years,” said David Sweet, athletic director and women’s basketball coach. “We are delighted that he will continue to coach the golf team.”
“I want to thank Keuka College for giving me the opportunity to coach basketball at the college level,” said Flood, who compiled a 27-43 record as head coach. “I look forward to my continued association with Keuka College as golf coach.” Read more
Men’s Lacrosse Fall To Brockport 7-2

The Keuka College men’s lacrosse team suffered its fifth straight loss as they fell on the road to the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday.
The Storm fall to 1-5 overall while Brockport improves to 6-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles defense kept Keuka scoreless for the first two periods as they tallied five goals to hold a 5-0 lead at the break. Keuka answered with two goals in the third period while keeping Brockport scoreless. The Golden Eagles tallied two of its own in the fourth period to close out the scoring.
Brockport out-shot Keuka 38-27 while also picking up 48 ground balls to the Storm’s 24. Keuka won the battle of face-offs (7-6) but struggled clearing the ball (20-for-33). Read more

James and Shafer Named Athletes of the Week

Spring athletes Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) and Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) were both selected as Keuka College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 27.
James, a sophomore slugger on the Storm’s softball team, led Keuka to a 4-0 week in conference play while batting .727 (8-for-11). James went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game one against Wilson College and then batted 3-for-3 with three RBIs, four runs scored, and a double in the second game. Against the College of Saint Elizabeth, James went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the first game and followed it up with a 1-for-2 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored in the nightcap. James had six walks, eight runs, and 10 RBIs in the four games.
Shafer, a junior attacker on the Storm’s women’s lacrosse team, led Keuka to a 1-2 week while totaling 22 points. Shafer had five goals and two assists in a 10-9 loss to Marywood University. She then had seven goals and an assist in a 17-9 loss to Elmira College. In Keuka’s 15-3 win over Medaille College, Shafer had five goals and two assists. She added six ground balls and four draw controls on the week.
Baseball Routed by No. 24 Cortland

The Keuka baseball team suffered a 16-2 loss to the No. 24 nationally ranked Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland on the road Sunday.
Keuka slips to 0-3 on the year while the Red Dragons improved to 12-5.
Keuka got off to a good start scoring two runs in the top of the first. Sophomore Mike Hutchings (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) singled to lead off the game and was sacrificed over to second by classmate Nick Ventura (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). Senior Neil Halvorsen (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) then singled home Hutchings and was followed by an RBI single from junior Matt Dunn (Walden, N.Y./Chapel Field). Read more

The Keuka women’s tennis team suffered its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss of the season as they fell to the visiting Phoenix of Wilson College by a score of 6-3 on Sunday.
Keuka slips to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in NEAC play while Wilson improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference action.
The Storm began the match by winning just one of the three doubles matches. Senior Jennifer Heinrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and rookie Brin Benjamin (Carlisle, Pa/Carlisle) won the second flight by a score of 8-4. Read more

Junior Laura Dougherty scored five goals while passing off four assists.
The Keuka College women’s lacrosse team enjoyed its second straight big win over a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent as they defeated Wilson College 22-2 at home on Sunday.
The Storm improve to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the NEAC. Keuka is out-scoring its NEAC foe’s 37-5 in two games. Wilson slips to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Storm out-scored the Phoenix 15-1 in the first half and 7-1 in the second half. Keuka ripped 46 shots to Wilson’s three while winning the battle of ground balls (33-8) and draw controls (13-10).
Keuka had nine different players score a goal with junior Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) leading the way with five goals and four assists. Classmate Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) added four goals and two assists.
