Men’s Lax Players Grab First Spring Athletes of the Week

March 10, 2010

The Keuka College men’s lacrosse team opened its 2010 season with an 11-8  road win over Shenandoah University this week and rookie Mark Butto (Rochester, N.Y./Schroeder) and junior Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) were the two biggest reasons for the Storm’s win.  Thus the pair shared Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending March 6.

Butto, a 5-11 attacker, netted a game-high four goals and added an assist (five points) in his first-ever collegiate game.  He tallied two goals in the second period and then added two more in the crucial second half to help Keuka pull away with the win.  Butto also added two ground balls.

Leonard, a 5-10 goalie, finished with 20 saves while allowing just eight goals.  The Hornets out-shot Keuka 46-28, but managed just eight scores because of Leoanrd’s play.  He had five saves in the first, seven in the second, six in the third, and two in the fourth period.  He also gobbled up two ground balls.
