Men’s Lacrosse Falls to RIT 21-3

The Keuka men’s lacrosse team lost its first game of the 2010 season as they were thumped by the Tigers of RIT on the road by a score of 21-3 on Saturday.
Keuka slips to 1-1 on the year while the Tigers also even its record and improve to 2-2 overall.
The first period saw the Tigers quickly grab a 2-0 lead. Rookie Mark Butto (Webster, N.Y./Schroeder) did his best to keep the Storm close as he netted two goals but the Storm were still down 4-2 after one period of play.
RIT ran away with the game in the second, out-scoring Keuka 8-0 to hold a 12-2 lead at the break. The Tigers out-scored the Storm 9-1 in the second half. For the game, RIT out-shot Keuka 61-12 and had 61 ground balls to the Storm’s 25. Keuka struggled on both face-offs, winning just 6-of-28, and clearing the ball, successfully clearing only 10-of-26.
Butto led the Storm in scoring with his two goals while David Miller (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) added a goal and an assist. Freshman Mike Crumlish (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) chipped in with a pair of assists.
The Tigers had 12 different players score a goal, led by Kelso Davis who tallied a game-high four.
Junior goalie Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) had 13 saves while allowing 12 goals in playing the entire first half. Rookie Ethan Kamholtz (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) started the second half in goal for Keuka, stopping six shots while allowing nine goals. Junior Jon Curry (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) played the final six and a half minutes in goal while not allowing a score and stopping one shot.
Keuka will next play at Elmira College this Wednesday, March 17 beginning at 4 pm.
