Men’s Lax Drop Second Straight

Freshman Mark Butto led the Storm in scoring for the third straight game.

The Keuka men’s lacrosse team dropped its second straight game to a member of the Empire 8 Conference as they fell to the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College by a score of 20-5 on Wednesday.

Keuka slips to 1-2 overall while Elmira improves to 2-1.

Keuka’s Chris Redington (Tully, N.Y./Tully) scored the game’s first goal just 1:21 into the first period.  The Soaring Eagles answered with a goal just four seconds later and then proceeded to score 12 straight goals to close out the first half with a 13-1 lead.

The Storm netted the second half’s first goal but again allowed Elmira to tally six straight goals.  Keuka scored three straight goals in the fourth period while holding Elmira to just one score in the final period.

Elmira out-shot Keuka 48-37 while picking up 67 ground balls to the Storm’s 29.  Keuka won just 8-of-29 face-offs while going 0-for-10 in extra-man opportunities.

Rookie Mark Butto (Rochester, N.Y./Schroeder) led the Storm in scoring for the third straight game with two goals and an assist.  He has 10 points through his first three games.

Classmate Mike Crumlish (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) added two goals while juniors Jaime Conway (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) and David Miller (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) each tallied an assist.

Junior goalie Brett Leonard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) stopped eight shots while allowing 13 goals in the game’s first 30 minutes.  Freshman Ethan Kamholtz (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) collected six saves while allowing seven goals in 30 minutes of action.  Elmira’s three goalies combined for 16 saves while allowing just five scores.

Keuka will next play its first home game this Wednesday, March 24 against SUNY Morrisville beginning at 4 pm.
