The Keuka women’s lacrosse team lost its season opener to the Saxons of Alfred University by a score of 15-5 on the road Wednesday.  The Saxons pick up its first win of the year and now stand at 1-1 overall.

Keuka got off to a slow start as Alfred scored all nine of the games first half’s goals.  The Storm netted five goals in the second half while the Saxons added six more scores.  Alfred out-shot Keuka 32-20 in the game but only 14-11 in the second half.  The Saxons also won the battle for ground balls (38-22) and draw controls (13-9).

Junior attacker Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) led Keuka in scoring with three goals while classmate Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) and senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) each added a goal a piece.

Juniors Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) and Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) each passed off an assist.

Rookie goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stopped 12 shots while allowing 15 goals, playing all 60 minutes, in her first ever collegiate game.  Alfred’s goalie also collected 12 saves.

Keuka will next play this Sunday, March 21 at Marywood University beginning at 2 pm.
