The Keuka women’s lacrosse team fell for the third straight time as they were defeated by the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College by a score of 17-9 on the road Tuesday. Elmira improves to 3-3 on the year while Keuka slips to 0-3.
The Storm trailed only one at the break (8-7) but were outscored 9-2 in the second half. Keuka’s Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) got the game’s scoring started with a goal with 24:59 left on the clock. Elmira then netted two goals to take the lead before Shafer tied it with her second goal. Elmira would score three of the next four goals to take a 5-3 lead. The Storm answered with four straight goals, two by Shafer, to take a 7-5 lead with just a couple minutes left in the first half. The Soaring Eagles managed three straight goals, including one with just one second left, in just 1:44 to retake the lead at the half.
Elmira tallied eight straight goals in the second half as they out-scored the Storm 9-2.
For the game, Elmira ripped 46 shots to the Storm’s 26 while the Soaring Eagles also held an advantage in ground balls (43-31) and draw controls (19-8).
Shafer registered seven of the Storm’s nine goals while assisting on another. The attacker now has an astounding 18 points in three games.
Rookie Sarah Capek (Elmira, N.Y./Horseheads) and junior Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) each scored one goal a piece while junior Courtney Potochniak (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) passed off her second assist of the season.
Freshman goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) picked up 14 saves, seven in each half, while allowing 17 goals.
Keuka will next play at Medaille College this Friday, March 26 beginning at 5 pm.
