Women’s Lax Wins Big for First Win

The Keuka College women’s lacrosse began its defense of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crown with a decisive 15-3 win over the Mavericks of Medaille College on the road Friday.

The Storm improve to 1-3 overall while Medaille slips to 0-4 on the year.

After Medaille kicked off the scoring, Keuka answered with four straight goals and scored six of the final seven goals of the half to hold a 6-2 lead at the break.  The Storm took over in the second half, out-scoring the Mavericks 9-1.

For the game, Keuka out-shot Medaille 30-11 while picking up four more ground balls (33-29).  Both teams went 2-for-4 in free position shots while Medaille won the battle for draw controls (11-9).

Junior Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) kept up her unbelivable scoring average, netting six goals and adding an assist.  The attacker now has 25 points in just four games.

Fellow junior attacker Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) enjoyed a big game for the Storm with three goals on three shots and adding a pair of assists and team-high seven ground balls.

Junior Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added two goals and two assists while junior Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) had two scores and an assist.  Senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) also netted two goals.

Rookie goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) collected six saves to pick up her first collegiate victory.  Medaille’s Jody Lang finished with 10 saves in goal.

Keuka will next play its first home game of the season this Sunday, March 28 against Wilson College beginning at 1 pm.
