Women’s Lax Offense Erupts in Second Half in 18-8 Win

The women’s lacrosse team used a strong second half to win its third straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game on Friday.  The Storm blasted the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville by a score of 18-8 at home.

Keuka evens its record at 3-3 while remaining undefeated in the conference (3-0).  Morrisville slips to 3-4 overall and suffers its first conference loss of the season (3-1).

The two teams played a very close first half with Keuka leading 6-5 at the break while out-shooting the Mustangs 19-16.  Keuka scored the game’s first goal but were answered with four straight Morrisville goals.  The Storm came right back with four straight of its own before trading goals at the end of the half.

The second half belonged solely to Keuka as they out-scored the Mustangs 12-3 and out-shot them 25-11.  The final tally in shots had Keuka with 44 to Morrisville’s 27 while the Storm also had more ground balls (39-19) and draw controls (19-9).

Keuka received goals from seven different players with junior Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) leading the way with a game-high five goals and two assists.  Classmate Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added four goals and two assists while junior Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) added three scores and an assist.

Senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) had a nice all around game with three goals, six ground balls, and five draw controls.  Junior Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) added a goal and two assists while classmate Courtney Potochniak (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) had a goal and an assist.  Sophomore Kayla McLachlan (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) also had a goal and an assist.  Rookie Chelsea DeGroote (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) dished off one assist.

Freshman goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stopped 11 shots in goal while allowing just eight to pick up her third straight decision.  Morrisville’s Allison Strub had 17 saves while allowing 18 goals.

Keuka will next host SUNY Oswego this Thursday, April 8 beginning at 4 pm.
