Sophomore Helen Helmer won both of her matches on Monday.

The Keuka College women’s tennis derailed the Express of Wells College by a score of 5-4 on the road Monday.  The Storm improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).  Wells falls to 3-2 overall and suffers its first conference loss (3-1).

The Storm won two of the three doubles matches and split the six singles matches.  In doubles, senior Alison Liberty (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) and junior Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) won the top flight by a score of 8-2 while sophomore Helen Helmer (Whitesboro, N.Y./Notre Dame) and rookie Brin Benjamin (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) won the second flight 9-7.

In singles, McGowan won the top flight easily (6-1, 6-0) while Liberty won the second flight (6-2, 6-0).  Helmer won the third flight by forfeit.

Keuka will next play at Roberts Wesleyan College this Tuesday, April 6 beginning at 3 pm.
