Women’s Lacrosse Winning Streak Snapped by Lakers

Keuka’s women’s lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak halted by the visiting Lakers of SUNY Oswego on Thursday as the Storm fell by a score of 20-10.

Keuka remains undefeated (3-0) in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) but is now 3-4 overall.  Oswego improves to 3-4 on the season.

The Storm were outscored 10-5 in each half.  Keuka was within two (7-5) late in the first half, but the Lakers closed out the half with three straight goals.  The Storm were out-shot 43-27 while finishing just three behind Oswego in ground balls (36-33).  Both teams recorded 16 draw controls.

Junior Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) led the Storm with four goals while classmate Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) added two goals, an assist, and a team-high eight ground balls.

Senior Trista Partridge (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) also netted two goals while junior Jennifer Bush (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) and rookie Chelsea DeGroote (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) each scored once.  Junior Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) passed off an assist.

Rookie goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stopped five shots in the first half and seven in the second to finish with 12 saves.  Oswego’s two goalies combined for 10 saves.

Keuka will next play at the College of St. Elizabeth this Saturday, April 10 beginning at 12:30 pm.
