The Keuka College men’s lacrosse team received some excellent play from its freshmen class as they rolled over the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Abington by a score of 23-2 on Sunday.

Keuka improves to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) while Abington falls to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

The Storm out-scored the Nittany Lions 3-1 in the first period, 6-1 in the second, and then blanked them in the final two periods (6-0 and 8-0).  Keuka out-shot Abington 53-18 while picking up 54 grounds balls.  Abington won the face-off battle (15-13) but committed 26 turnovers to just 12 for Keuka.

Leading the offense was rookies Chris Redington (Tully, N.Y./Tully) and Mark Butto (Webster, N.Y./Schroeder).  Redington finished with six goals and two assists while Butto added five goals and two assists.  Junior Stephen Major (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) registered three scores and an assist as rookie Mike Crumlish (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) had a goal and four assists.

Junior Peter Hart (Webster, N.Y./Thomas) dished off three assists while classmate David Miller (East Syracuse, N.Y./ESM) had two goals and two assists.  Sophomore Gino Marcello (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) had two goals.

Junior Jon Curry (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) played all 60 minutes in goal stopping six shots while allowing just two goals.  Abington’s goalie had 13 saves.

Keuka will next play host to the Mavericks of Medaille College this Wednesday, April 14 beginning at 4 pm.
