Women’s Tennis Win Two NEAC Matches Over Weekend

Freshman Kara Dewitt won both of her singles matches over the weekend.
The Keuka women’s tennis team won two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matches over the weekend. The Storm started by defeating Penn State-Berks by a score of 6-3 on Saturday. Keuka then knocked off Penn State-Abington by a score of 9-0 on Sunday.
Keuka improves to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Against Berks, Keuka won the first and second flights of doubles while dropping the third flight. Junior Megan McGowan (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) and senior Alison Liberty (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) won 8-3 while senior Jennifer Heinrich (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) and sophomore Helen Helmer (Whitesboro, N.Y./Notre Dame) won 8-6.
In singles, Keuka won the first, second, fifth, and sixth flights. McGowan won in the top flight (6-4, 6-4) while Liberty took home the second flight (6-4, 6-3). Freshman Brin Benjamin (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) won the fifth flight (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) while classmate Kara Dewitt (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) won the sixth flight (8-6).
On Sunday, McGowan and Liberty won 8-0 in the top flight of doubles while Heinrich and Helmer won 8-4 in the second flight. Benjamin and Dewitt finished off the sweep with an 8-1 win in the third flight.
In singles, Mcgowan won (6-0, 6-1), Liberty won (6-1, 6-0), Helmer won (6-2, 6-2), Heinrich won (8-3), Benjamin won (6-1, 6-1), and Dewitt won (6-4, 6-1).
Keuka will next play at the College of St. Elizabeth this Wednesday, April 14 beginning at 4 pm.
