Shafer’s 100th Career Goal Not Enough in Loss to Wells

Junior Brandy Shafer scored her 100th career goal in the loss.
Wells College scored five of the game’s last six goals to steal the win against Keuka on Wednesday. The Express won 14-13 while the Storm drop to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in conference action. Wells improves to 6-6 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.
With Keuka clinging to a 12-9 lead with 24 minutes remaining, Wells scored four straight goals to take a 1-goal lead. The Storm’s Courtney Potochniak (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) tied the game up with just 3:04 remaining but Wells nailed the game-winner at the 2:46 mark.
Keuak trailed 4-3 at the half while each team scored 10 goals in the second half. Keuka recorded two more shots (30-28) while also finishing with two more draw controls (15-13). The Storm had five more ground balls (17-12).
Junior Brandy Shafer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) led Keuka with six goals, including her 100th career goal. Shafer now has 50 goals on the season and is the Storm’s all-time leader with 101 goals.
Junior Laura Dougherty (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added three goals and an assist while Potochniak added two goals and an assist. Junior Brittany Murray (Heuvelton, N.Y./Heuvelton) scored one goal while passing off three assists.
Rookie goalie Molly Hogan (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) stopped 11 shots in goal while Wells’s goalie collected 12 saves.
Keuka will next play host to Cazenovia College this Saturday, April 17 beginning at 4 pm.
