Baseball Splits with SUNY Cobleskill; Mills Breaks Career K Record

Senior Simon Mills broke the career strikeout record with 93.
The Keuka baseball team split with the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill on the road Sunday. The Storm won game one, 5-4 and lost game two 12-8. Keuka is now 3-13 on the year and 1-5 in conference play while Cobleskill is 7-20 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
In game one, Keuka starter, junior Jason Kirkum (Bason, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama), pitched a complete game six-hitter. He had a perfect game into the fourth inning. Tied 2-2 going into the seventh, Keuka’s Ted Black (Turin, N.Y./South Lewis) hit a bases clearing double to secure the victory for Keuka. The Storm had 11 hits to Cobleskill’s six.
Kirkum finished with five strikeouts while Black went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Sophomore Mike Hutchings (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored while classmate Nick Ventura (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and senior Simon Mills (Boonville, N.Y./Adirondack) each went 2-for-3.
In game two, Keuka jumped out to an early 3-0 and then went up 7-4 in the fourth. The Storm’s defense fell apart in the bottom of the fourth as they committed three costly errors that led to six runs for the Fighting Tigers. Keuka collected 10 more hits in the game.
Senior Kyle Sherin (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) took the loss while Mills pitched three innings of solid relief. He struck out four, breaking the school record for career strikeouts with 93.
Hutchings was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases while Black was 2-for-4 with two more RBIs. Kirkum was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Ventura added two more hits. Mills clubbed his first home run of the season.
Keuka will next play host to St. John Fisher College this Tuesday, April 20 beginning at 4 pm.
