Baseball Splits with SUNYIT

The Keuka baseball team had a chance to sweep the Wildcats of SUNYIT but instead ended with a split on Thursday.  Keuka lost game one 9-8 and took game two 4-3.  The Storm improve to 4-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play.  The Wildcats now stand at 14-18 overall and 5-5 in the NEAC.

In game one, Keuka fell behind 4-0 after three innings of play but scored seven runs in the fourth.  SUNYIT answered with a run in the fifth to make it 7-5.  The Storm scored one in the top of the sixth but allowed four runs in the bottom half of the inning to lose by one. 

Junior Jason Kirkum (Bason, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) was solid on the hill, striking out 10 batters and allowing just five earned runs in the complete game loss.  He also batted 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored. 

In game two, Keuka scored three runs in the top of the first and added another run in fourth.  The Wildcats plated two in the third and one in the fifth.  Senior Simon Mills (Boonville, N.Y./Adirondack) tossed a complete game while allowing just three earned and striking out four to pick up his first win of the season.

Senior Rob Crowley (Attica, N.Y./Attica) batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while rookie Keith Prestano (Astoria, N.Y./Xaverian) also batted 2-for-3.  Senior Neil Halverson (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) drove in two runs with a triple.

Keuka will next play host to Penn State-Abington this Friday, April 23 beginning at 2 pm.
