Softball Finishes NEAC Season Undefeated with Sweep of SUNYIT

The Keuka College softball team secured that they would host the upcoming North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament by sweeping the Wildcats of SUNYIT on Sunday.  Keuka won game one 7-0 and took the nightcap 9-6.

The Storm finish with a perfect 20-0 record in conference play while standing at 20-6 overall.  SUNYIT drops to 27-7 overall and 17-3 in the NEAC.

The Storm received yet another gem from rookie hurler Allison Richter (Hume, N.Y./Fillmore) as she tossed a 4-hit shutout while striking out six.  Keuka scored three runs in the first and three more in the second while adding a run in the sixth. 

Sophomore Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) supplied the offense as she went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.  Junior Denise Bilbow (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while swiping three bases. 

In game two, Keuka put up six runs in the first and added a run in the fourth.  The Wildcats answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 0ne-run game.  The Storm plated two more runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Junior Cherie Smith (Canastota, N.Y./Mohawk Valley CC) picked up the win while going 3.1 innings.  Richter pitched the final 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up her second save.

Junior Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) batted 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored while clubbing her fourth home run.  Rookie Brittany Smyder (Avon, N.Y./Avon) went 2-for-2 with an RBI while senior Jessica VanScoter (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.  Freshmen Terin Brown (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Montana McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) drove in three runs.

The first game of the NEAC Tournament will be played this Friday, April 30 beginning at 10 am.
