Softball’s Coach, Five Players Honored by NEAC

The Keuka softball team just finished winning its fourth straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament Championship as well as its fourth straight NCAA Tournament birth. 

A major reason for the team’s success, 23-8 overall and 20-0 in the NEAC, was the play of many of its players as well as its head coach. 

Jamie Burke and five of her player’s were recognized for there excellent seasons by the conference.  Burke was one of three coaches named as Coach of the Year.  Wilson College and SUNYIT’s coaches were also given the honor.

Rookie Pitcher Allison Richter (Hume, N.Y./Fillmore) was named the NEAC Pitcher of the year as well as earning a spot on the All-NEAC first team.  Joining Richter on the first team was sophomore catcher Sara James (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton).

Named to the All-NEAC second team were junior outfielder Denise Bilbow (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), junior first basemen Sarah Fredricks (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury), and rookie second basemen Terin Brown (Wayland, N.Y./Wayland-Cohocton).

Richter, the NEAC Tournament MVP, led Keuka with a 1.63 ERA while going 14-4 on the hill.  She tossed 15 complete games, including four shutouts, while striking out 98 batters in a team-high 107.1 innings.  She held opponents to a .234 batting average while picking up a save.

James, a second team pick last season, batted .333 while leading the team with 33 RBIs.  She ripped 33 hits while scoring 29 runs and stealing 10 bases.  James had two doubles, two triples, and a home run.

Bilbow, a first team pick a season ago, batted .372 with a team-high 36 runs scored and 33 stolen bases.  She ripped three triples among her 32 hits while driving in seven runs.

Fredricks, the NEAC Player of the Year the past two seasons, batted a team-high .402 while leading the squad with 35 hits, six doubles, five triples, and four home runs.  Her 27 RBIs were second on the team while her amazing .724 slugging percentage led the team.

Brown had a solid rookie season, batting .347 with 25 hits and 24 runs scored.  She drove in 10 runs while collecting four doubles, two triples, and a home run.  Brown was second on the team with 48 assists.
