Five First Half Goals, Sharick’s Six Points, Lead Women’s Soccer Past Caz

Sophomore Nicole Sharick had six points on two goals and two assists.
The Keuka College women’s soccer team enjoyed a huge first half as they knocked off the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a score of 5-1 on Thursday.
The Storm improve to 3-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). Cazenovia falls to 3-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Keuka had a monstrous first half as they scored all five of its goals and out-shot Cazenovia 22-0. Senior Courtney McLaughlin (Warsaw, N.Y./Letchworth) scored the Storm’s first goal when she took a rebounded shot off the crossbar and netted a goal in the 14th minute (13:23). McLaughlin now has all three game-winning goals for the Storm this season. Classmate Molly McGuigan (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) got credit for the assist after taking the shot that hit the crossbar. Read more

Senior Jack Reece had two shots on goal.
The Keuka College men’s soccer team received another great game from its senior keeper, Kyle Salo (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek), but suffered a 1-0 loss to the visiting Soaring Eagles of Elmira College on Wednesday.
Keuka slips to 4-3-1 on the season while Elmira improves to 4-2-2.
The Storm were out-shot 40-6 in the game, but clung to a zero-zero tie with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game. Elmira’s Ernesto Valverde broke the scoreless game with his third goal of the season in the 79th minute (78:43). That would be the only goal of the game. Read more

Mastrella and Naegely Garner Athlete of the Week Honors

Sophomore John Mastrella (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and senior Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) were named Keuka College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 25.
Mastrella, the leading scorer on Keuka’s 4-2-1 men’s soccer squad, led the Storm to a 1-1 week while tallying three goals on just four shots. Mastrella netted two goals in the Storm’s 4-0 win over Hilbert College. He then scored the Storm’s third goal on a penalty kick in its 4-3 overtime loss to Penn State-Harrisburg. For the season, he has six goals and an assist (13 points) in seven games.
Naegely, an outside hitter on the Storm’s 9-5 volleyball team, led Keuka to a perfect 5-0 week including 4-0 against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe’s. Naegely led the team with 54 kills while adding 10 serving aces, 30 digs, and six blocks. She had eight kills and 11 digs against Alfred in the team’s only non-conference match this week. Naegely followed that up with games of 10, nine, 16, and 11 kills against the NEAC teams. For the season, she leads the Storm with 118 kills (2.46 per game).
McLaughlin’s Goal in OT Gives Storm 1-0 Win Over Gallaudet

Playing its fourth straight overtime game, the Keuka College women’s soccer team finally came out on top after senior Courtney McLaughlin (Warsaw, N.Y./Letchworth) netted the game-winner to give the Storm a 1-0 win over Gallaudet University on the road Sunday.
Keuka improves to 2-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The Bisons slip to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
Despite out-shooting Gallaudet 11-2 in the first half and 18-6 in the second half, the Storm were unable to get a shot past the Bison’s goalie, who had 14 saves at the end of regulation. Read more
Men’s Soccer Crushes Gallaudet 6-0

Freshman Mel Rogers netted his first career goal.
The Keuka College men’s soccer team scored three times in each half as they dominated the host Bisons of Gallaudet University with a 6-0 shutout on Sunday.
With the win, the Storm improve to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). Gallaudet slips to 0-7 overall ad 0-3 in the conference.
Keuka dominated from the get go as they scored twice early and ended up out-shooting Gallaudet 31-10. Sophomore defender Reis Cunningham (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) scored the Storm’s first goal in the eighth minute (7:19) off a rebound for his first score of the season. The team’s leading scorer, John Mastrella (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), added his sixth of the season off a pass from rookie Nate Schreiber (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) just over three minutes later (10:45).
