Mastrella’s Goal Lifts Storm to Season-Opening Win
September 4, 2010

Sophomore John Mastrella scored the game-winner in the 25th minute.
The Keuka College men’s soccer team won its season-opener on the road against the Panthers of Pitt-Bradford by a score of 1-0 Saturday.
Sophomore John Mastrella (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) was the hero for the Storm as he kicked in the goal off a rebound from senior Carl Learned’s (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) shot in the 25th minute (24:57) of the first half. Learned was credited with the assist.
The first-half score would hold up as Keuka’s defense limited the Panthers to just five second half shots and only eight for the game while the Storm kicked 15.
Senior goalie Kyle Salo (Red Creek, N.Y./Red Creek) picked up the shutout while stopping three shots in goal. The Panthers Adam Forster had seven saves.
The Storm will next play host to the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Abington this Friday, Sept. 10 beginning at 7 pm.
