Volleyball Falls in Finals of D’Youville Invite to Open Season

Senior Morgan Engelbert was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Keuka College volleyball team got off to a solid start as they went 2-2 at the D’Youville College Spartan Invitational while making it to the finals.
The Storm lost to Medaille College (3-0) in its first game before rebounding to take down Becker College (3-0) on the first day of the Tournament. On the second day, Keuka took care of host D’Youville College (3-0) before falling to the Mavericks of Medaille again (3-0) in the finals.
The Storm were led by seniors Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) and Heather Fish (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) as they were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Engelbert finished with 22 kills and .255 attack percentage while Fish ended with a team-high 27 kills and a .306 attack percentage.
Against Medaille on day one, the Storm fell 25-22, 25-19, and 25-21. Engelbert and Fish each had five kills while senior Katy Geers (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) passed off 10 assists. Juniors Hannah Doody (Tully, N.Y./Tully) and Rachael Perry (Nichols, N.Y./Tioga) led with seven digs a piece.
Versus Becker College, the Storm won easily 25-13, 25-12, and 25-11. Engelbert, Fish, and senior Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) led the way with six kills a piece while Geers had 16 assists. Perry had eight digs and four aces as sophomore Brittany Smyder (Avon, N.Y./Avon) served up seven aces.
On the second day against D’Youville College, Keuka won 25-17, 28-26, and 25-19. Fish had a team-high 12 kills while Engelbert chipped in with 10. Sophomore Demi Kauppinen (Portville, N.Y./Portville) had 20 assists while Perry had 13 digs.
In the finals, Keuka lost 25-19, 25-21, and 25-10. Fish led with four kills and three blocks while Doody had seven digs.
The Storm will next play its home opener on Sept. 14 against Pitt-Bradford beginning at 7 pm.
