Senior Chelsea Socha won the SUNYIT Invite.

Senior cross country sensation Chelsea Socha (Himrod, N.Y./Dundee) picked up right where she left off last season, winning races.  Socha took first out of 76 runners at the SUNYIT Invitational in the Storm’s season-opening race.

Keuka finished in sixth place out of nine teams with a team score of 142.  William Smith College won the race with a score of 48 while SUNY Potsdam took third (97).  Cazenovia College (127) and Broome (132) rounded out the top five.

Not only did Socha win the race, but she did so an entire minute ahead of the second place finisher (20:16 – 21:17).  Her 5K time of 20:16 bested her own course record of 20:19 that she set last season.  Socha has now run in eight races in two years at Keuka and she finished first in five of them.

Rookie Lauren Roesch (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) placed 11th overall in her first collegiate race.  Roesch ran a time of 22:49.  Sophomore Elizabeth Gorman (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) placed third for the Storm in a time of 24:25 (25th overall).

Freshman Morgan McMahon (Owego, N.Y./Owego) took 59th place (28:06) while junior Stephanie Pontes (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) placed 61st overall (28:57).

Keuka will next run in the SUNY Oswego Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 11 beginning at 11 am.
