Women’s Basketball Remains Undefeated with Big NEAC Win

The Keuka College women’s basketball team remained perfect on the year (4-0) with a big 72-34 road win against the Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Tuesday. Cazenovia slips to 0-2.
The Storm’s defense limited Cazenovia to just 21% shooting (10-for-48) for the game while Keuka shot 31% (26-for-85). The Storm attempted 37 more shots while causing 25 Wildcat turnovers. Keuka held a 38-21 lead at the break and broke the game open in the second half, out-scoring Caz 34-13. Keuka pulled down a season-high 63 rebounds while limiting the Wildcats to 37.
Sophomore Mariah Mouzon (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Elmira Free Acad.) led Keuka with a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds while senior Brittany Schrock (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas Edison) added 10 points, five boards, and five assists. Read more

The Keuka College men’s basketball team fell to 0-4 on the season with a 65-55 loss on the road to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College on Tuesday. Cazenovia picks up its first win of the season and improves to 1-1.
The first half saw the Wildcats attempt 10 more shots (35-25) then the Storm while Keuka was 44% from the floor and Cazenovia (40%). The Wildcats held a five-point (32-27) lead at the break.
Five second half 3-pointers by Cazenovia prevented the Storm from coming back as they were again out-scored 33-28. Keuka held a rebounding advantage of 43-37 but turned the ball over 37 times in 40 minutes of action. The Wildcats capitalized on the Storm’s miscues by registering 12 more shot attempts (63-51) for the game. Read more

Brown, Gravel Named Athletes of the Week

Keuka College freshmen Putter Brown (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and Danielle Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) were both selected as Athletes of the Week after the first week of basketball for the week ending Nov. 20.
Brown, a shooting guard, led the Storm in scoring with 53 points (17.7) and rebounding with 25 boards (8.3) while Keuka went 0-3 on the week. Brown did his best to help the Storm as he led the team in scoring all three games. He started his collegiate career with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to SUNY Canton. He followed that up with an 18 -point, 8-rebound performance in a loss to John Jay College in the first round of the Hilbert College Tip-Off Tournament. In the consolation game of the tourney, Brown netted 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a loss to Hilbert College. He went 20-for-43 from the floor (47%) on the week and 11-for-21 from the free throw line (52%).
Gravel, a point guard, led the Storm in scoring with 38 points (19.0), assists (7), and steals (8) while guiding Keuka to a 2-0 start to its season. In her collegiate debut, Gravel went for 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 3-for-5 from behind the arc. She followed that up with a 20-point, 5-assist, 5-steal performance while going 8-for-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from behind the arc. For the week she went 13-for-19 (.68%) from the floor and 7-of-10 (.70%) from beyond the 3-point line.
Women’s Hoops Holds On in 57-52 Win Over St. Elizabeth

The Keuka women’s basketball team let a big lead slip away but held on to defeat the Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth by a score of 57-52 on the road Sunday.
With the win, Keuka remains undefeated at 3-0 and 2-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) while St. Elizabeth falls to 1-2 overall.
The Storm dominated the first half out-scoring the Eagles 30-18 while leading by as many as 14 during the half. The Storm shot 42% (9-for-21) while holding St. Elizabeth to just 24% (7-for-29) shooting. Read more

Men’s Basketball Can’t Overcome Slow Start in 61-54 Loss to Hilbert

Freshman Putter Brown was named to the All-Tournament team after his 18 points.
The Keuka men’s basketball team found themselves down 11 (32-21) at the half as they ended up losing 61-54 to Hilbert College in the consolation game of the Hilbert Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.
The Storm drop to 0-3 on the year while Hilbert gets its first win of the season and stand at 1-2.
Keuka made just six first half field goals as they shot 27% from the floor while the Hawks went 11-for-36 (31%) from the floor, making four trifecta’s. Read more

The Keuka women’s basketball had no trouble in its first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game of the season as they handled the Phoenix of Wilson College by 52 points (87-35) on the road Saturday.
Keuka improves to 2-0 on the year while Wilson falls to 1-1.
